In memoriam Larry Norman
25. Februar 2008
Gestern ist Larry Norman verstorben. Ein Pionier Jesus-inspirierter Popularmusik im 20. Jahrhundert.
I feel like a prize in a box of cracker jacks with God’s hand reaching down to pick me up. I have been under medical care for months. My wounds are getting bigger. I have trouble breathing. I am ready to fly home.
My brother Charles is right, I won’t be here much longer. I can’t do anything about it. My heart is too weak. I want to say goodbye to everyone. In the past you have generously supported me with prayer and finance and we will probably still need financial help.
My plan is to be buried in a simple pine box with some flowers inside. But still it will be costly because of funeral arrangement, transportation to the gravesite, entombment, coordination, legal papers etc. However money is not really what I need, I want to say I love you.
I’d like to push back the darkness with my bravest effort. There will be a funeral posted here on the website, in case some of you want to attend. We are not sure of the date when I will die. Goodbye, farewell, we will meet again.
Goodbye, farewell, we’ll meet again
Somewhere beyond the sky.
I pray that you will stay with God
Goodbye, my friends, goodbye.Larry

Im Andenken an Larry der Text eines seiner größten Klassiker, der einiges von seinem Herz und seinem augenzwinkerden Humor verrät:
I want the people to know
That He saved my soul
But I still like to listen to the radio
They say that rock and roll is wrong, we’ll give you more chance
I say I feel so good I gotta get up and danceI know what’s right, I know what’s wrong and I don’t confuse it
Why should the devil have all the good music?
I feel good every day
‘Cause Jesus is the Rock and He rolled my blues awayWell now they say to cut my hair
They’re driving me insane
I grew it out long to make room for my brain
But sometimes people don’t understand
What’s a good boy doing in a rock and roll bandThere’s nothing wrong with playing blues licks
But if you got a reason tell me to my face
Why should the devil have all the good music
There’s nothing wrong with what we play
‘Cause Jesus is the Rock and He rolled my blues awayRoll ‘em away now!
I ain’t knocking the hymns
Just give me a song that has a beat
No I ain’t knocking the hymns
Give me a song that moves my feetJesus told the Truth
Jesus showed the Way
There’s one more thing I’d like to say
They nailed Him to a cross
And they laid Him in the ground
But they shoulda known they can’t keep a Good Man downAnd I feel good every day
I refuse to lose it
All I wanna I know from all of you is
Why should the devil have all the good music
‘Cos I been filled I feel okay because Jesus is the Rock and He rolled all my blues
Jesus is the Rock and He rolled all my blues
Jesus is the Rock and He rolled all my blues

Schade, ich hätte Larry noch ein paar Jahre gewünscht. Mein Lieblingsstück von ihm war “Moses”. Ich muss die alte Platte mal im Keller suchen gehen.
