Crazy for God VIII – Dreimal O-Ton V

12. Januar 2011

[Das ist der achte Post in einer Serie zu Frank Schaeffers Buch Crazy for God. Zu den anderen: 1|2|3|4|5|6|7]

Crazy For God-7

To one extent or another, my parents‘ children have had serious problems that relate to Mom and Dad and their work. And even though everyone can say the same, perhaps there is a little added pressure on the children of venerated saints that in private were far from saintly. (323)

There were three kinds of evangelical leaders. The dumb or idealistic ones who really believed. The out-and-out charlatans. And the smart ones who still believed – sort of – but knew that the evangelical world was shit, but who couldn’t figure out any way to earn as good a living anywhere else. (328)

The problem with the evangelical homeschool movement was not their desire to educate their children at home, or in private religious schools, but the evangelical impulse to „protect“ children from ideas that might lead them to „question“ and to keep them cloistered in what amounted to a series of one-family gated communities. (331)
